If you take a walk around any American town at this time of the year, chances are that you’ll notice some spooky decorations on people’s houses and front yards. You might see spider webs hanging in trees, or pumpkins with scary faces carved into them sitting on people’s front porches. This is how you can tell that it’s almost time for one of America’s most popular holidays: Halloween!
American families celebrate Halloween in a variety of ways, but the most well-known tradition of all is dressing up in costume. People wear costumes to parties, to school, and of course, after school whilst “trick-or-treating”—the act of ringing your neighbors’ doorbells to ask them for free candy. Because Americans really like to go all-out for their costumes, Halloween presents a great opportunity to get creative with your host kids and host parents. There’s no better way to bond than to dress up in wacky outfits together and be seen in public! Without further ado, here are some of our favorite kid-friendly host family and au pair Halloween costumes from around the Cultural Care community. Prepare yourself for some cuties in costume, American cultural references, and of course, lots of Disney…
